Gutter Cleaning in Burlington, VT Done By Hand
Gutter cleaning for Burlington homes — from the New North End to the Hill Section — cleared by hand, downspouts opened up, debris bagged and gone.
Gutter cleaning for Burlington’s older homes
Mansfield Services is a family-owned company based in Underhill, and Burlington is one of the towns we work in most. Gutter cleaning — sometimes called gutter clearing or a gutter clean-out — keeps rainwater moving off your roof and away from the house. That matters more here than in most places: a lot of Burlington’s housing stock is a century old, sitting close to the sidewalk, under mature street maples, often with a stone or brick foundation that does not forgive standing water. We clear the debris out by hand, clear your downspouts, and bag it before we go. Full service details are on our gutter cleaning page.
- Cleaned by hand using traditional methods — never blasted with a pressure washer
- Downspouts cleared so they can drain
- Debris bagged neatly on site

What we see on Burlington gutters
The tree canopy is the whole story in Burlington. The big silver and sugar maples that make streets in the Hill Section and the Old North End so pleasant to walk down also drop an enormous amount of leaf litter into the gutters directly beneath them, and they do it late — often well into November, after most people have already put the ladder away.
Add the shallow-pitch porch roofs and additions common on older Burlington houses, where debris settles instead of sliding off, and buried or crushed downspouts on tight lots, and you get gutters that overflow down the siding rather than draining. On a home with an older foundation, that water ends up exactly where you do not want it. We work off ladders and by hand, and we check the downspouts run before we call it done.
- Late leaf drop from mature street maples — we time fall visits accordingly
- Shallow porch and addition roofs where debris settles instead of sliding
- Older foundations that do not tolerate overflow at the wall
- Tight lots and close neighbors — we work clean and bag everything on site
Excessive trees or buildup? Consider gutter guards.
If your home is surrounded by trees — or you’re seeing debris come back fast between cleanings — gutter guards can dramatically cut down on maintenance. They keep leaves and debris out while still letting water flow through.

Yes — the New North End, the Old North End, the Hill Section, the South End, and everything between. Burlington is one of our most-booked towns, so we are usually in the area already.
When should a Burlington home get its fall gutter cleaning?
Later than most people expect. The mature maples on Burlington streets hold their leaves well into November, so a cleaning done in early October often needs doing again. We aim to get you cleared before winter sets in, once the drop is actually finished.

Gutter cleaning FAQs — Burlington, VT
Why is gutter cleaning important?
Clean gutters keep rainwater flowing off your roof and away from your home. When they clog, water backs up and can lead to foundation erosion, basement damage, roof leaks, mold, and ruined landscaping — all far costlier than a cleaning.
How often should gutters be cleaned?
Most Vermont homes do best cleaned at least twice a year, in spring and fall, to clear out seasonal debris. Homes with a lot of trees close by tend to need it more often — and if that’s you, gutter guard installation can help extend the time between cleanings.
What happens if gutters aren’t cleaned?
Debris builds up and water overflows the gutters, running down your siding and pooling at the foundation. Over time that can damage your roof, siding, foundation, and landscaping.
Do I need gutter guards or screens?
Gutter guards can cut down on how much debris builds up, and we’re happy to walk you through the pros and cons. We won’t sell them as a “one and done” fix, because they aren’t — guarded gutters still need maintenance, just far less than uncovered ones. If you’d like, we can include an estimate for gutter guard installation.
Can you remind me when it’s time?
Yes. We automatically schedule many of our customers for spring and fall — or once-a-year — cleanings. Once you’re set up, you don’t need to remember a thing, and you don’t even need to be home for the visit.
Is gutter cleaning the same as gutter clearing or a gutter clean-out?
Yes — they’re all names for the same job: removing leaves, needles, and debris from your gutters and downspouts so water can flow freely. Some people also call it a downspout cleaning, since we clear those too.
