Deck cleaning for Vermont homes across Chittenden, Lamoille & Franklin Counties — composite, painted, stained and bare wood, each cleaned the way that surface needs.
Mansfield Services is a family-owned company based in Underhill, serving Chittenden County and parts of Lamoille and Franklin Counties. A Vermont deck takes a beating — snow sits on it for months, shade keeps it damp, and mold, mildew and algae settle into the grain. The method that is right for a composite board is wrong for bare wood, so we set the approach by what is actually on your surface.
Size, and what is on the surface — composite, paint or solid stain, or bare wood. That one answer sets the method and the price, so we ask it in the form rather than guessing on the day.
Detergent does the lifting and the pressure stays as low as the surface allows. We work the deck boards, the railings and the stairs, and we keep the solution off the plantings around the deck.
The mold, mildew, algae and ground-in grime come off, and the deck looks like somewhere you would sit again. If you are planning to stain or seal it yourself, this is the right starting point.
What is on your boards decides how we clean them. Tap an option to see what that looks like.
Trex, Wolf and the rest, plus any deck carrying paint or a solid stain — cleaned at low pressure so the coating stays where it belongs.
Too much pressure is what damages composite and what strips a tired coating. We keep it low on purpose, and we would rather make two passes than one aggressive one.
No coating on the wood at all. Cleaning lifts the weathered gray surface, so expect the deck to come back noticeably lighter than it went in.
Cleaning lightens bare wood wherever the solution lands. That is the wood coming clean rather than being harmed — but it does mean a cleaned area and an uncleaned one will not match.
Where a bare wood surface sits next to the work but is not part of it, point it out before we start and we will take what steps we reasonably can to keep it clear.
Dirt, mold, mildew, algae and general grime come off well — that is the bulk of what makes a deck look tired. Rust, oil, tannin bleed from leaves sitting over winter, and deeply oxidized wood may lighten rather than disappear. We would rather tell you that before we start than have you find out afterward. If we think a surface will not give you the result you are picturing, we will say so.

A freshly cleaned deck has a way of showing up everything around it. We soft wash siding, and we wash patios, walkways, fences and stone or brick — same visit, same crew, one trip instead of two.

Boards stay damp for months under snow, and the shaded side of a deck barely dries out all season. That is what mold, mildew and algae need. Clearing it off is what buys the surface its next few years.

They overlap, but they are not identical. Pressure washing is one of the methods we use, and on a deck it is rarely the right setting to lead with. Composite and coated boards get a low-pressure wash with a detergent that does the lifting; bare wood gets gentler treatment still. The method follows the surface, not the other way around.
It is priced by the size of the deck and what is on the surface, plus railings, stairs and how easy the deck is to reach. Tell us a little about yours through the form and we will confirm your details and price before any work starts.
No. We clean decks, we do not stain or seal them. A clean deck is the right starting point if you plan to coat it yourself or have someone else do it, and the surface needs to dry fully first.
Usually a good deal of it. Gray on bare wood is weathered surface fiber and cleaning lifts much of it, which is why bare wood looks noticeably lighter afterward. How far it comes back depends on the wood, its age, and how long it has been exposed. We will tell you honestly what to expect when we look at it.
Yes, and we would rather say so up front. Dirt, mold, mildew, algae and general grime come off well. Rust, oil, tannin bleed from leaves and deeply oxidized wood may lighten rather than disappear. We will point those out rather than promise something the surface will not give.
Yes. Composite boards clean up well with low pressure and the right detergent. Too much pressure is what damages composite, so we keep it low and let the detergent do the work.
No. We need access to the deck and an outdoor water supply that is turned on. If there is a gate code or a dog in the yard, let us know when you book and we will work around it.
Yes, please. Furniture, grills, planters and rugs all need to come off so we can reach the whole surface. If something is too heavy to move, leave it and tell us when we arrive.
Tell us a little about your deck and we’ll get right back to you to confirm your details and price.
